The 9th International Conference on Goats, will be held in the city of Queretaro, Mexico. The city of Queretaro is strategically selected for its proximity to Mexico City and other important goat producing states of Mexico. It is also important because of its tradition in goat meat and milk production, processing and consumption.
The main goal of the 9th International Conference is to disseminate the knowledge of cutting edge technology and science for the benefit of sustainable goat production. For this purpose, people dedicated to the field of academy, research and production activities will gather to share experiences and to study ways of improving the goat production industry. The outcome of this exchange will surely impact the goat industry for the benefit of humankind.
Recent findings in different areas of research and transfer of sustainable technology to goat producers have successfully improved goat production in Mexico and other countries. Government and non-government entities are an essential component in the development of this industry by helping goat associations which receive technical support and accessible loans. An increased demand for quality goat products such as meat, milk and processed food products and fiber world wide, have resulted from the development of new market opportunities and niches.
The central conference theme will be “Sustainable Goat Production: Challenges and Opportunities of Small and Large Enterprises”. Some actual topics that will be covered are sustainability, food safety, production and product quality assurance and organic goat products. The importance of the central theme takes into consideration the modernization of the goat industry, under a sustainability scheme, in which scientists, producer associations and government and non-governmental entities have interacted with the result of improved goat production and social development.
National and International researchers participating in the organization and scientific committees have been grouped according to their area of expertise, considering their academic background and current research activities. Plenary session will include topics in the areas of Physiology and Behavior, Breeding and Genetics, Nutrition and Feeding, Animal Health, Husbandry, Environment and Sustainability, Goat products: Marketing, Economics and Food Safety, Technology Transfer and Producer Organization, and Social Development and Contribution of Women to Goat Production.
We invite all IGA members, and those individuals dedicated to research and teaching of goat production to this magnum event, which will be held in Mision Queretaro JuriquillaHotel from the 31st of August to the 5th of September, 2008. During the event, participants will be able to visit goat production systems and a showcase, where producers from all over Mexico will present dairy and meat goats, goat food products, among other commercial items. Researchers, professors, students, and goat consultants and producers can participate in the individual sessions, presenting their research findings and production experiences in oral or poster presentations in the following areas: |
